Most of my recent efforts have been with ships. After a little deviation last week, I now have basic meshes for all of the ships, and textured versions of the Spemin, Gazurtoid, and Mysterion ships. Not sure if the textured versions will be useful for the SF1 remake, but if not they will still also be used for capi3101's "Starflight:Total Brawl" RPG.
As far as use in the SF1 remake, I'm planning on rendering these 3d versions of the ships as wireframes for the scans of alien ships.
A few ideas:
If we use the textured versions, perhaps they could pop up during an encounter while the scan image is showing up on your upper right screen. The main screen could show a rendered picture of the corresponding ship for a few seconds and then take you back to the combat/encounter view. That would probably be the way to do it.
I really think that I should thin out the music during communication, some of the more complicated music(And definitely the ones that have voice overs like the nomad probe) can be distracting when you are trying to read the text. Perhaps having the music play once, showing first the ship(s) and then the alien would be a better way to do it. Then a real subtle sound effect or musical element during each phrase of communication.
Thoughts?
I'm going to take renders of the ships I've done and put them in a PDF for Stainless and capi3101 to look at. Hopefully I'll have it together by tonight. Anyone on the SF3 team that would like to give me feedback on these is welcome to as well.
